We all sat in a semi-circle in the pews of the chapel at Lake Junaluska, me with chattering teeth from the unseasonably cold weather, while we went over the final timeline for Justin & Whitney’s wedding that would be in just a few weeks. I promised it would get warmer, that the flowers would blossom, the sun would shine, the birds would chirp and I was just certain it would be beautiful (and that ended up being completely true). We discussed lovely portrait locations, and what details were important to the couple, like flowers or decor; and out of this, Whitney looks at me with conviction in her eyes and says very seriously “this wedding isn’t about the decor, this wedding is all about the people.” Justin just looked at her, smiled and nodded his head slowly in agreement–he was already demonstrating what a great husband he would be. The whole thing was so heart-warming. Sometimes we get so caught up in the details we forget it really is all about the people (in life, or otherwise). Here we were, discussing what would be one of the most important events of their lives, and they already knew what to focus on: each other and the people they love.
Everything was really beautiful though, people, details and all! 🙂
